Gradient

The direction and rate of steepest increase of a scalar field, as a vector field, estimated by sampling a small step either side along each axis. On a Solid's distance field it is close to unit length and points out of the Solid.

Inputs

Field Number

The field to take the gradient of.

Takes: any block that gives Number (102 blocks)
Epsilon Number

Sampling step either side of each point, in model units (default 0.05).

Output

Vector

Used by: Rotate, Scale, Warp, Sample Field, Rib Walls, Average, Sum, Unpack Vector, Vector Angle

Properties

Values the block gives besides its output. The editor lists them under Properties, and an input can read one by reference.

Xy 2D Vector

The x and y components together, as a 2D vector field.

Yz 2D Vector

The y and z components together, as a 2D vector field.

Zx 2D Vector

The z and x components together, as a 2D vector field.

X Number

The field's x component at each point.

Y Number

The field's y component at each point.

Z Number

The field's z component at each point.

Length Number

How long the vector is at each point.

Negative Vector

The field pointing the opposite way (−v).

UnitVectorField Vector

The field scaled to length 1 at each point.
