Lattice in Solid

Fills a Solid with a lattice: the cell, picked here or wired, is tiled over a box, cylinder or sphere grid or a wired cell grid, cells that cannot touch the Solid are skipped, and with Trim on the lattice is cut flush at its surface. The cell is sized by its thickness or by the share of each cell that is material. Gives the same result as Cell Grid in Solid, Trim Cell Grid, Tile Cells and Trim Beams wired in a row.

Inputs

Volume Solid

The Solid (or field) to fill with the lattice.

Takes: any block that gives Solid (102 blocks)
Cell type Choice

The cell to fill with: a beam or wall cell from the library, a minimal surface, or Wired, the cell wired into Cell (a Custom Cell).

Cell Lattice Cell

The cell to fill the Solid with, when Cell type is Wired: a Custom Cell.

Takes: Custom Cell
Form Choice

A wall around the surface, a wall moved off it, or the space on one side of it.

Grid Choice

How the cells are laid out: a rectangular grid, rings around an axis, shells around a centre, or Wired, the cell grid wired into Cell grid.

Box sizing Choice

How a box grid's cells are sized: Absolute, by Cell size; or Count, by how many cells span the volume's bounding box along each axis.

Cell size Vector

Cell edge lengths along the grid's x, y and z axes, in mm. All three must be positive.

Cell count Vector

How many cells along the grid's x, y and z axes: three whole numbers. The cells span the volume's bounding box, each cell its share of it.

Cell grid Cell Grid

The cell grid that places the cells, when Grid is Wired: it carries their size and placement.

Takes: Cell Grid in Solid, Cell Grid on Surface, Grade Cell Grid, Trim Cell Grid
Cell radius Number

Radial thickness of each ring of cells, in mm.

Cell height Number

Height of each ring of cells along the axis, in mm.

Arc count Number

How many cells make one full turn around the axis.

Latitude count Number

How many rings of cells from pole to pole.

Longitude count Number

How many cells make one full turn around the polar axis.

Frame Frame

Where the grid is laid out. When unset: a box grid starts at the volume's bounding-box min corner with world axes; a cylinder grid sits on the volume's principal axes about its centre of mass, Z along the axis of the smallest moment (axes whose moments lie within 5 % of each other follow the world axes); a sphere grid is centred on the volume. A box grid sized by Count spans the volume's bounding box in this frame.

Takes: Curve Frame, Frame, Offset Plane, Point-Normal Plane
Trim Yes/No

Cut the lattice off at the volume's surface so it ends flush there. The cut tolerance is 0.1% of the mean side length of the volume's bounding box. On by default.

Sized by Choice

What sizes the cell: its Thickness, or the share of each cell that is material (Volume fraction, on a box grid).

Thickness Number

The cell's beam or wall thickness in mm: a number, or a field to grade it. Unset: 1 mm. Read by cells that take a Thickness.

Takes: any block that gives Number (102 blocks)
Volume fraction Number

The share of each cell that is material, 0 to 1: a number, or a field to grade it. It sets the thickness (a One Side cell's offset) that fills this share of the cell, read from the cell itself. On a box grid only.

Takes: any block that gives Number (102 blocks)
Offset Number

How far a minimal surface is moved, in mm: a number, or a field. Unset: 0. Read by cells that take an Offset.

Takes: any block that gives Number (102 blocks)
Advanced (2)
True wall thickness Yes/No

Hold the wall closer to the requested thickness: the distance from the surface is read from the field's gradient and its bend along it, instead of the quick estimate. Measured against the true distance for walls up to 40 % of the cell, the wall's share of the cell is off by at most 0.7 percentage points on a Gyroid, 2.4 on Schwarz P, 3.8 on Neovius, 4.2 on Schwarz D, 6.2 on Lidinoid and 6.5 on Split P. Costs eight extra field evaluations per point, so lattices using this cell build slower. Off by default.

Orientation Choice

Which of the cell's own u, v, w axes lands on x, y and z. UVW keeps the cell as authored.

Output

Lattice

Used by: any block that takes Lattice (98 blocks)

Properties

Values the block gives besides its output. The editor lists them under Properties, and an input can read one by reference.

BeamGraph Beam Graph

The beams, vertices and thicknesses, without the lattice around them.

Graph Lattice

The beams and vertices alone, with no thickness.

BoundingBox Bounding Box

The axis-aligned extent of the beams' vertices.

EdgeCount Number

How many beams the lattice has.

LineSegments List of Curve

Each beam as a line segment.
